Building Regulations

Lucas County Building Regulations is committed to the accurate and fair application of State mandated codes to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public as they work, reside and play in buildings within Lucas County.

We will partner with our customers to help them achieve their goals while ensuring that structures meet the minimum code requirements set forth by the State of Ohio. We will utilize technology to improve our efficiencies and, above all, provide a professional, courteous and efficient customer service experience to developers, contractors, design professionals and homeowners.

Building Regulations’ Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides review of pre-construction plans to ensure compliance with State mandated minimum codes.
2. Issues building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and sign permits for new construction and alterations to residential and commercial structures.
3. Performs inspections to ensure that construction conforms to the approved construction documents and minimum code standards.

Above all, Lucas County Building Regulations is a service agency. Our goal is to provide the citizens of Lucas County a department that is responsive to the rights and needs of the individual while working within the guidelines adopted by the Board of Commissioners and the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards to protect the safety and welfare of the general public.
